Chinese Insurer Offers End-to-End Medical Support for Expats

Insurance News Desk: Ping An Good Doctor has introduced an AI-powered healthcare service aimed at making medical care easier for expatriates living in China.
The new offering, called Ping An GlobalCare, is currently available on a trial basis in Shenzhen. It combines real-time translation with both online consultations and in-person support at hospitals, targeting the practical difficulties many international patients face. Language barriers, unfamiliar hospital systems and fragmented care pathways are among the common obstacles the service seeks to reduce.
Users can communicate through two-way speech and text translation covering 19 languages, including specialised medical terms. Registration is possible with mobile numbers from 198 countries and regions. Once connected, the process runs from an online assessment through to a dedicated case coordinator who arranges transfer and provides support during the hospital visit.
In one example shared by the company, an American patient known as Michael completed an online consultation with live AI translation, was transferred to a hospital and accompanied throughout by a case coordinator. The entire sequence took about three hours.
The family doctor team behind GlobalCare holds membership certification under PKU Healthcare, and many of its physicians come from tertiary hospitals in mainland China. Ping An Good Doctor has indicated it intends to expand the service’s cross-border capabilities and further develop its mix of online, in-hospital, at-home and corporate healthcare offerings.
The launch reflects growing demand for seamless medical access among the expatriate community in major Chinese cities. By linking AI translation with coordinated human support, the insurer aims to shorten the time and reduce the friction involved in seeking care.
