Malaysia Gets Easier Access to Critical Illness Protection through Shopee

News Desk: Zurich Life Insurance Malaysia has taken a fresh step into digital distribution by launching its critical illness coverage directly through the Shopee and ShopeePay apps, making protection more accessible for everyday Malaysians who increasingly shop and manage finances online. The move brings health security right to where people already spend their time, bridging traditional insurance with the convenience of e-commerce platforms that millions rely on daily.
Underwritten by Zurich Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad and distributed in partnership with MoneeInsure Agency Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the product comes in two straightforward options, Basic and Comprehensive. Customers can secure coverage up to RM300,000, or roughly $72,000, depending on the plan they choose.
It protects against up to 14 critical and early-stage illnesses, ranging from cancer and heart attack to stroke and kidney failure, conditions that often bring sudden financial strain. The Comprehensive version adds extra support for selected early-stage illnesses up to RM150,000, while both plans offer helpful extras like access to second medical opinions and monthly income benefits tailored to the level of coverage selected.
This launch feels particularly timely given the realities many families face. Recent insights shared by the companies point out that six in ten Malaysians have less than RM1,000, around $240, set aside for emergencies, leaving them vulnerable when serious health issues arise.
By embedding insurance into familiar shopping apps, Zurich and its partner hope to lower barriers and encourage more people to secure some protection before trouble strikes.
To sweeten the introduction, eligible buyers can enjoy the first month of the Basic plan free during the ongoing promotional campaign, a nudge designed to help more individuals try out the coverage without upfront commitment.
The initiative reflects a broader industry trend toward simpler, digital-first solutions that meet people where they are rather than expecting them to navigate complex traditional channels.
