IDRA opens panel enlistment for chartered secretaries; deadline Jan 25

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh’s Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) has invited qualified individuals and firms to apply for enlistment as Chartered Secretaries, a move aimed at strengthening regulatory oversight and governance across the country’s insurance sector. In its notice, IDRA said applications must reach the authority’s office by 5pm on January 25, following the call issued on January 5.

Enlisted professionals will be considered for assignment to conduct specialised inquiry and review work for insurers identified by the regulator, covering secretarial compliance, corporate governance and independent scrutiny, along with other related tasks allowed by IDRA. The authorities concerned indicated that each engagement will be guided by a clearly defined scope of work at the time of appointment; ensuring investigation is aligned with the specific regulatory objectives and circumstances of the case.

Eligibility requirements include holding at least Associate Chartered Secretary membership from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) and demonstrating no fewer than five years of professional experience, including a minimum of two years in a financial institution. Applicants with proven experience in the insurance sector will receive preference. IDRA also said that applicants will be disqualified if they have been convicted by a court or have been punished or blacklisted by any competent authority.

Applications must be supported by documentary evidence, including ICSB membership credentials, proof of recent work experience, relevant regulatory enlistment records where applicable, declaration confirming no disciplinary action or blacklisting and valid TIN and BIN documentation.
