Fazlul Haque appointed as IDRA acting chairman

Staff Correspondent: The Government of Bangladesh has appointed Md Fazlul Haque as the acting chairman of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA), following the acceptance of the resignation of the previous chairman Dr M Aslam Alam.

According to official notifications issued on Wednesday (April 8) by the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance, the government has cancelled Dr Alam’s contractual appointment after accepting his resignation. The decision was made in accordance with Section 5(3) of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority Act, 2010.

The order, signed by Deputy Secretary Iftekharul Karim, confirmed the development.

Md Fazlul Haque, who is currently serving as a member (Administration) of the authority, has been assigned the additional responsibility of chairman. He will exercise full financial and administrative powers in this role.

The government has stated that Haque will continue to serve as acting chairman until a permanent chairman is appointed.

Dr M Aslam Alam had earlier submitted his resignation on March 2, citing personal reasons.
