86% of Singaporeans Hold Travel Cover

Int’l Desk: Singapore stands out as the global leader in travel insurance take up, with 86% of its travelers holding some form of coverage, according to findings from Redion and Ipsos. The figure comes from a survey of 1,000 consumers conducted between late February and early April 2026 and places the city state well ahead of other markets.

More than half of those surveyed, or 51%, said they plan to keep buying travel insurance going forward. Singaporeans also rank among the world’s highest spending leisure travelers, with an average holiday budget of 2,818 US dollars. Most of the policies in force, 86%, are temporary or single trip arrangements. Nearly half of respondents hold annual cover, while a small share rely on protection linked to their credit cards.

When it comes to what people want protected, personal belongings top the list at 93%, followed closely by transportation accidents at 92%. Health risks matter to 90% of travelers, personal attacks to 87%, and natural disasters to 83%. Hassen Bennour, chief executive of Redion Asia Pacific, noted that Singaporeans are looking beyond basic coverage toward broader multi risk protection and assistance that stays with them throughout a trip.

Artificial intelligence is starting to play a larger role in how people approach both travel and insurance decisions. About 45% of respondents said they have already used AI tools to research destinations, compare options or build itineraries, and 48% would consider allowing AI to handle bookings. Nearly half, 47%, expect to lean more on AI in the future when comparing travel insurance products. Bennour observed that while AI can speed up planning, travelers still want the reassurance of human guidance when final decisions are made.

The combination of high coverage rates, substantial travel spending and growing openness to digital tools positions Singapore as a demanding yet attractive market for insurers. The survey results suggest that providers who can blend efficient digital support with reliable human advice stand to gain the most ground in meeting the expectations of these travelers.
