Singlife Opens Health Plans to Foreigners in Singapore

Int’l Insurance Desk: Singlife has opened its Singlife Shield and Singlife Health Plus plans to eligible foreigners who live, work or study in Singapore, expanding access to integrated health coverage for a wider group of residents. The move gives non-citizens the chance to buy policies that were previously more restricted, according to a report published by Insurance Asia.

Singlife Shield Plan 1 covers treatment at private hospitals and carries a policy year limit of up to S$2 million, equivalent to about US$1.57 million. Through the insurer’s partnership with IHH Healthcare Singapore, policyholders gain access to more than 700 medical specialists and streamlined hospital admissions.

A second option, Singlife Shield Plan 2, focuses on Class A wards in public hospitals and offers a policy year limit of S$1.2 million, or roughly US$944,000. That figure stands as the highest available among public hospital plans currently offered to foreigners.

Customers can further strengthen their protection by adding Singlife Health Plus Private or Singlife Health Plus Public. These riders bring extra benefits for cancer care, critical illness and mental wellness support. The plans also help address the broader financial strain that can follow a serious diagnosis, such as lost income and ongoing household commitments.

Families stand to benefit from discounted premiums on Singlife Shield, while children up to the age of 20 may receive free Singlife Health Plus coverage, subject to the usual terms and conditions. The exchange rate used in the original reporting placed one Singapore dollar at approximately 0.79 US dollars.

The expansion reflects growing demand for comprehensive medical cover among Singapore’s expatriate and student communities and positions Singlife as a more inclusive provider in the local health insurance market.
