Insurance Claims of 5,868 Customers of Five Life Insurance Companies Settled

Staff Correspondent: In the second phase of settling long-pending insurance claims, Tk 23 crore has been paid to 5,868 policyholders of five life insurance companies.
At a programme organised in the conference room of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) on Monday (14 September), the cheques for the insurance claims were handed over to the customers by the organisation’s Chairperson Mir Nadia Nivin.
IDRA has informed that these claims are being settled by arranging funds from various sources, including the assets and security bonds of the concerned insurance companies.
In the second phase, the customers of Padma Islami Life Insurance received the largest amount. Tk 12 crore has been paid to the company’s 3,600 policyholders.
1,145 policyholders of Homeland Life Insurance have received Tk 4 crore 98 lakh. Tk 5 crore has been given to 580 policyholders of Fareast Islami Life Insurance.
In addition, Tk 55 lakh has been given to 300 policyholders of Sunflower Life Insurance and Tk 50 lakh to 243 policyholders of Sunlife Insurance.
Earlier, on 3 September, in the first phase, claims amounting to Tk 14 crore 51 lakh of 2,549 policyholders of seven life insurance companies were settled.
Combining the two phases, insurance claims amounting to a total of Tk 37 crore 54 lakh of 8,417 policyholders have been settled.
IDRA has informed that this drive to settle unpaid legitimate claims will continue. The remaining claims will be paid in phases after verification and scrutiny.
