Bermuda Insurer Rolls out AI Digital Underwriting Tool

Global Insurance Desk: Mosaic Insurance, the Bermuda specialty carrier, has rolled out HALO, a new AI-driven digital underwriting platform built to speed up access to complex specialty coverage for small and midsize businesses. The system went live this month and aims to cut the usual delays that often keep SMEs waiting on quotes for harder-to-place risks.
According to the company’s own announcement, HALO works as a modular setup rather than a simple quoting tool. It pulls together broker activity, underwriting choices, and how the overall portfolio is performing so underwriters can see the full picture in one place.
Straightforward submissions that meet the criteria can move from quote to bind and policy issuance in a matter of minutes. Anything more complicated or outside the standard parameters gets handed off to a human underwriter for closer review.
The first product available on the platform is a combined cyber and technology errors-and-omissions policy. Mosaic is offering it through its wholesale broker partners in North America.
George Cole, who heads SME cyber at the firm, noted that the system lets the team track the entire submission flow, from the kinds of risks coming in to conversion rates, pricing decisions, limits, and where exposure might be building up across different industries or technologies.
Mitch Blaser, Mosaic’s co-founder and co-CEO, described the launch as a major step forward in what the company can do and how far it can reach. He said the platform reflects their broader approach of using artificial intelligence to support underwriters, make better use of data, and let specialists apply their knowledge more effectively across a larger book of business.
Mosaic has been expanding its specialty lines in recent years and already writes business in cyber, environmental liability, political risk, and several others. The HALO system is intended to help the insurer bring those more intricate products to smaller companies that traditionally find it harder to obtain them quickly.
By handling routine cases automatically while keeping experienced underwriters involved on the tougher ones, the company hopes to improve both speed and precision without losing the judgment that specialty underwriting requires.
Industry observers have watched similar AI tools emerge across the sector, but Mosaic’s focus on combining trading data with portfolio outcomes in a single environment sets this effort apart for the SME specialty space.
The platform is still in its early days, yet the initial cyber product is already available to brokers, marking a concrete move from pilot to live market use.
