MetLife Bangladesh Invests Tk 50 Crore in Eastern Bank Subordinated Bond

Press Release: MetLife Bangladesh has invested Tk 50 crore in Eastern Bank PLC’s fourth subordinated bond.

The investment is part of MetLife’s plan to expand its holdings in corporate bonds alongside government securities. The company said the move will help diversify its investment portfolio.

Following the investment, MetLife Bangladesh’s total investment portfolio has reached nearly Tk 19,000 crore.

Ala Ahmad, chief executive officer of MetLife Bangladesh, said the partnership with Eastern Bank would support the country’s financial sector.

“We are managing our investment portfolio responsibly with the aim of providing safe and sustainable returns for our policyholders,” he said.

Subordinated bonds are debt instruments that help banks strengthen their capital base and provide long-term funding support.

Hasan O. Rashid, managing director of Eastern Bank, said the bond would help the bank strengthen its capital position and increase its capacity for long-term financing.

Eastern Bank PLC provides corporate and retail banking services in Bangladesh, while MetLife Bangladesh operates in the life insurance sector.

MetLife Bangladesh said it currently serves around 1 million individual customers and more than 900 corporate clients.
