Travel Insurance Now Protects Against Digital Booking Scams

Insurance News Desk: MSIG Insurance Malaysia has expanded the coverage under its Travel SafeGuard travel insurance product, raising the maximum age for travellers to 80 and introducing protection against online fraud related to travel bookings.

The updates build on the policy’s launch in late 2025 and include higher limits on selected benefits along with more options tailored to different travel needs, particularly for older policyholders.

A key addition is cover for losses arising from fraudulent online travel transactions made through debit cards, credit cards or digital wallets. This responds to the growing risk of scam purchases and unauthorised payments when travellers book flights, hotels or packages online. Policyholders can also reach emergency assistance via WhatsApp and choose traditional Chinese medicine follow-up treatment in Malaysia once they return from their trip.

Medical benefits under the plan now reach up to RM500,000. The policy continues to offer protection for trip cancellations and delays, baggage loss and worldwide emergency assistance. Ang Yien Chia, CEO of MSIG Malaysia, noted that the enhancements are designed to give customers greater flexibility in selecting coverage that matches their individual travel requirements.

These changes position Travel SafeGuard as a more comprehensive option for both younger and senior travellers in a market where digital booking risks and demand for flexible medical support continue to rise.
